The brand spanking new HMRI building was officially opened today.

The $90 million building is the most modern medical research centre in the world housing teams of researchers seeking cures for cancer, brain and mental health issues and heart disease. The centre will also facilitate vital research into pregnancy and reproduction, viruses, infections, immunity, vaccines and asthma, information-based medicine and public health.

The 16,000 square metre building will bring together more than 450 medical researchers from the University of Newcastle and Hunter New England Health to improve the health of the community.

HMRI is a partnership between the University of Newcastle, Hunter New England Health and the community.
