The Governor-General, Her Excellency, Ms Quentin Bryce, will tomorrow launch a unique Indigenous family support program addressing the need for culturally-appropriate support during a family breakdown.

The Aboriginal Building Connection (ABC) program is a post-separation support service for Aboriginal families that was developed by Interrelate, in partnership with the University of Newcastle’s Family Action Centre. The program is unique as it responds specifically to the often complex cultural contexts Aboriginal people can face during a family breakdown.

Researchers developed the resource in consultation with five Aboriginal communities in NSW and Victoria.
