A key program of work for the Marketing and PR team at UON continues to be the Research Reputation Building Campaign which is focused on enhancing the profile and reputation of the University’s research strengths internationally, nationally and locally.
The team recently profiled the work of Sociology Professor John Germov and his team who are working with industry partners on an exciting Australian-first research project that is providing new insights into the nation’s global wine trade, its impact on tourism and the migration of Australian drinkers from wine to beer.
The current phase of the research campaign features Professor Pablo Moscato, aligning with Dementia Awareness Month, and highlights how Professor Moscato is leading the revolution into some of medicine’s greatest challenges, including how treatments for Alzheimer’s Disease and cancer are approached.
Through the application of computer science and algorithms, Professor Moscato is driving the push for personalised medicine. He and his research team at The Priority Research Centre for Bioinformatics, Biomarker Discovery and Information-Based Medicine (CIBM) are breaking the mould of what medicine has been for the past 1,000 years, through the use of mathematical methods that interpret genetic data and scrutinise diseases such as breast cancer, Parkinson’s Disease and multiple sclerosis.

The Research Reputation Building Campaign was recognised at the 4th QS Maple Creative Awards for the Best Education Promotional Designs 2014, receiving a Gold Award for the Best International Website Page and a Silver Award for the Best International Print Advertisement. The campaign was further recognised this month at the Australian Tertiary Education Management/Campus Review Awards with a High Commendation in the Excellence in Marketing and Public Relations category for raising public awareness and appreciation of the impact of institutionalised research on local and global communities.
Following on from the success of the campaign website, the Marketing and PR Team is extending its original purpose to address further strategic priorities for UON such as Graduate Research and the promotion of our Research Clusters.
