On Mainau Island we were treated to a beautiful summer picnic, and panel discussion on education in science and most importantly, we witnessed 36 Nobel Laureates signing the 2015 Mainau declaration on Climate Change, led by Australian Nobel Laureate Brian Schmidt.
Joachim Gauck, the German President gave a wonderful multi-faceted speech. He noted that the general public know more about the Star Wars Movies than they do about the current state of science and this we must change.
University of Newcastle research doctorate student, Namira Williams, has won the prestigious Australian College of Midwives 2013 NSW Midwife of the Year. Beginning her PhD thesis with UoN last August, Namira is focusing on improving care for women with an intellectual disability during and after pregnancy.
A former University of Newcastle student, Steve Peacocke, won the Silver Logie for most popular actor last night. Steve, who studied communications at UoN, received the Logie for his role as Darryl “Brax” Braxton on Home and Away.
